What is mane project?
SHARE

MANE is a collaborative project between NCBI and EMBL-EBI. It stands for Matched Annotation from NCBI and EMBL-EBI [1]. The datasets provided by NCBI and EMBL-EBI on the human genome are not identical across every gene.

The difference between the two datasets may cause several problems for researchers. Therefore, they have started this project to create a matched annotation for both datasets. The researchers from the Ensembl team and the RefSeq team are working together on this project.

Only those transcripts are added to the MANE dataset on which both groups are agreed. Now, they are in agreement on almost all protein coding genes and trying to do it entirely.

The Ensembl Genome Browser is currently hosting the MANE annotation transcripts as default ones. The annotation is also freely available through RefSeq and the Ensembl Transcript Archive. They allow bulk download of MANE data.

For further information, read here.
